Lake and pond bank repair for golf courses
For superintendents: the sod we lay on a repaired bank, what your mowing crew needs to know, and when we hand the bank over.
1The problem
Will it disrupt play?
A web page cannot answer that for your course.
The method is settled on the site visit. Access is agreed with you in the pre-construction review.
On a geotube bank the finish is sod, from the water’s edge up. On golf courses we lay 419 or Celebration Bermuda. Soil-based sod roots better than sand-based.

Questions and answers
What if the water level drops in the dry season?
It will. Florida lakes drop every dry season, and a submerged tube can show for a while. That cannot be fully prevented. Where we expect the level to fall, we cover the submerged tube with a protective fabric, and the care guide tells your crew what to look for at the waterline.
Why not just seed it, or hydroseed?
We have done both. On a 4:1 bank the first rain carries seed into the lake, with or without a blanket, so we do not recommend it. Sod holds from the first day.
Can you tell us the method from photos?
No. Photos help us prepare, but the site visit decides the method. We do not recommend a method from a photo or from a calculator.
